The best way to book is through my tattoo enquiry form. Tell me a little about your idea, where you would like it placed, the approximate size and any reference images you have.
Once I have had a look through everything, I will get back to you with a quote and the next available appointment options.
Ready to get started? Head to my Book a Tattoo page and send me your idea.

I specialise in fine-line and illustrative tattoos, with each design drawn individually for the person wearing it.
I work across a real mix of subjects, from animals and botanical pieces to sentimental designs, objects and completely personal ideas. If you like the style of my work but aren't sure whether your idea would suit it, you are always welcome to send an enquiry.
-
Yes. Every custom tattoo is drawn by me specifically for you.
I don't reproduce another tattoo artist's work, so even if you come to me with lots of inspiration, your finished design will be your own.
-
Absolutely. Reference images are really helpful.
They can show me the subject you have in mind, particular details you like, the sort of composition you are drawn to or simply help explain an idea that is difficult to put into words.
Your references don't need to be tattoos either. Photographs, artwork, objects, plants, pets and even slightly chaotic Pinterest collections are all welcome.
-
I won't directly copy another tattoo artist's design, but you are very welcome to send it to me as inspiration.
I'll use your references to understand which elements you like and then create something original that fits both you and my own fine-line illustrative style.
-
Tattoo prices vary depending on the size, placement, amount of detail and the time needed to both design and tattoo the piece.
You can find some general pricing guidance on my Pricing page. Once you send through your enquiry, I can give you a more accurate quote for your individual tattoo.
-
Yes. A deposit is required to secure your appointment.
Your appointment isn't confirmed until the deposit has been received. Full information about deposits, rescheduling and cancellations can be found in my booking terms.
-
I prepare your design ahead of your appointment as part of the custom tattoo process.
Because every design is drawn individually, I put time aside specifically for creating your artwork rather than using pre-made designs.
If there is anything particularly important that needs to be included, please make sure you mention it when you submit your enquiry.
-
Yes. I want you to feel happy and comfortable with the tattoo you're going to wear.
Small changes can usually be made before we begin tattooing. If you decide that you would like to completely change the original idea, we may need to rearrange the appointment so I have enough time to properly redesign it rather than rushing something on the day.
Never feel awkward about speaking up. I'd always rather make an adjustment before we start.
-
Yes.
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly planned tattoo. If you know the general subject, feeling or idea you're trying to capture, send me what you have and I can help turn it into something that works as a tattoo.
The more information you can give me about what you do and don't like, the easier it is for me to understand what you're picturing.
-
Of course.
Lots of clients come to me for their first tattoo, and I'll talk you through what is happening before we begin.
There will be time to discuss the placement and size, look at the design together and ask any questions you have. You don't need to know tattoo etiquette or arrive pretending you're completely unfazed by needles.
-
Please tell me.
Being nervous is completely normal, especially if it's your first tattoo. My studio is a private, appointment-only space and I want you to feel comfortable asking questions or speaking up at any point.
We can take things at your pace and have breaks when needed.
-
Try to have a good meal before your appointment and make sure you're well hydrated.
Please avoid arriving hungover, and try to keep the area being tattooed healthy and free from sunburn, cuts or irritation beforehand.
Wear something comfortable that allows easy access to the area we're tattooing, and feel free to bring a drink, snack, headphones or anything else that will make a longer appointment more comfortable.
-
Whatever keeps you comfortable while giving me easy access to the area being tattooed.
For example, shorts are useful for thigh tattoos, a vest or loose top works well for upper arms and shoulders, and loose or easily adjustable clothing is generally your best friend.
If you're unsure what would work best for your placement, just ask before your appointment.
-
Yes, you are welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment.
I just ask that you keep it to one guest where possible so that the studio stays calm and there is plenty of room to work comfortably.

Ash Fern Tattoo is based in Ongar High Street, Essex and operates by appointment only.
Parking can usually be found nearby in Bansons Lane or by Ongar Library.
-
I'll talk you through how to look after your tattoo at the end of your appointment so you don't need to memorise an entire aftercare manual beforehand.
The most important thing is to keep your new tattoo clean, follow the aftercare instructions you're given and avoid picking or scratching it while it heals.
If you're ever unsure about how your tattoo is healing, you are welcome to get in touch.
-
Everyone heals slightly differently, and the size and placement of your tattoo can make a difference too.
The surface of the skin will usually go through its most noticeable healing stages over the first couple of weeks, although the deeper layers of skin continue healing for longer.
I'll give you aftercare guidance at your appointment so you know what to expect.
-
Yes.
If your tattoo needs a little attention once it has fully healed, get in touch with a clear photograph and I can have a look for you.
Because tattoos heal differently from person to person, I prefer to assess touch-ups individually rather than trying to judge them while the tattoo is still healing.
-
I only tattoo clients aged 18 or over.
Please bring valid photo identification with you if requested.
